In its centenary year, The Grimethorpe Colliery Band is committed to preserving the traditions of excellence and innovation created by its past members, and also to building an inclusive, forward-thinking team that can ensure a solid and sustainable organisation for future generations. With this in mind, there have been a few personnel changes recently, with the latest being the renewal of the band’s relationship with Allan Withington who will lead the band at this year’s British Open.
Allan achieved considerable success in his previous tenure as professional conductor with the band, not least back to back wins in the National Championships (2006/2007) and English Nationals (2007/2008).
The band’s educational outreach initiatives rely on time and funding, given/raised by band members, and is an integral part of Grimethorpe Colliery Band in the 21st century. The band believes the appointment of Allan Withington will only strengthen this.
