Grimethorpe band are delighted to announce that they have secured the services of Adam Bokaris as the new Principal Euphonium player, replacing the retiring Michael Dodd.
Over the course of more than twenty years in the ‘hot seat’, Michael has build an unrivalled for excellence, musicality and consistency, thrilling audiences worldwide on the concert and contest platform. Musical Director Dr. David Thornton said “For as long as I can remember Michael Dodd has been at the forefront of brass band euphonium playing, his contest record speaks for itself and we can only thank him for everything he’s contributed to the musical life of Grimethorpe Band. A gentleman and a true bandsman!”
Michael himself commented “I have enjoyed every minute of playing for the band I grew up wanting to be part of”. The good news is that Michael is moving to a backroom position within the organisation, assisting with the running of the band and continuing to be involved in the bands burgeoning Education set up, as well as conducting and teaching at the bands outreach project at Birkwood Primary School as part of his job with the Barsnley Music Hub.
The band are excited by the appointment of one of the countries foremost Euphonium players as his replacement, Adam Bokaris from the Fairey Band. “I taught Adam at the RNCM for 4 years and have always admired his clear lyrical instincts and natural virtuosic flair,” commented David Thornton, adding “He will fit in to our set up at Grimethorpe both musically and socially, bringing with him ambition & desire for quality. I couldn’t be more delighted to work with him again.”
Adam’s tenure with the band will officially begin in January 2020.
