The band is delighted to announce that David Horn has accepted the role of Band Manager. David joins the band with over 50 years active experience as a Solo Horn player and conductor, this is allied with a successful business career in engineering sales and management, which has taken him around the world.
David was actually Solo horn with Grimethorpe in 1974 when under Elgar Howarth and along with Black Dyke band they became the first Brass band to play at a Sir Henry Woods Promenade concert, in the Albert Hall. Since then he has been solo horn with several of the countries top bands and while at Fairey Engineering he was part of their National, and British Open winning performances, also taking part in many CD, radio and TV broadcasts.
When asked about his appointment as band manager at Grimethorpe, David commented “It’s taken a long time for me to arrive back in an active role with Grimethorpe, but it really does feel like I’ve come home if I can use my playing experience and business skills to the good of Grimethorpe band then I will be very happy. I have so many friends already in the band, and they are building so well with exceptional young talent, that when asked to do the job I just had to accept.”
