Grimethorpe Colliery Band are excited to announce that Ed Culpin has been appointed as the band’s Solo Baritone player.
Ed began playing at the Leicestershire Co-op Band, before moving onto Derwent Brass and more recently Carlton Main Frickley, where he performed at both the National Finals and British Open. Throughout this time he has also had success in solo performances. Ed is a two-time winner of the Houston Brass Band solo competition and the British Open Intermediate solo competition. During his time at Youth Brass 2000 he picked up solo prizes at the Butlins Mineworkers Championships, Youth British Open and Youth Brass in Concert. He has also performed at several Youth European Championships.
Ed commented, “It’s a huge honour to take on the principal baritone seat at such a great band with so much history, I’m looking forward to many great concert and contest performances ahead.”
The band’s musical director, Ben Dixon said, “Ed is an outstanding young talent with a very exciting future ahead of him, and we are delighted to welcome him to Grimethorpe.”
Ed made his debut with the band over the weekend at Grimsby Auditorium, the band’s first concert of 2025.
