Grimethorpe Band is devastated to learn of the death of its former Euphonium player, Paul Walton, at the tragically young age of 48.
Paul joined the band in the Summer of 2017 after several years out of top line banding and served until the pressures of his busy work as a paramedic and travelling to Manchester forced him to leave almost 12 months later.
A spokesperson for the band said “We are all devastated and affected by Paul’s passing. He was a modest and softly spoken member of the band, but he let his playing and his actions as a bandsperson do the talking. He was rightly proud of his family and his dry humour and smile often lit up the bandroom and long bus journeys. Paul remained a friend of the band and its members after leaving us, and we are shocked at his untimely death. Our thoughts go out to his wife Nicky and his four talented children, who no doubt will follow in the footsteps of a popular, thoughtful, musical and thoroughly decent man. We also extend our thoughts to our friends at the Fairey Band, where Paul was latterly playing, and indeed all the bands and ensembles Paul represented with distinction over the years, who will be similarly hurting right now.”
