Grimethorpe Colliery Band are delighted to announce the signing of Vicki Kennedy to the Solo Cornet bench.
Vicki is no stranger to GCB having played for the band back in 2014 after she completed her studies at the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama. Whilst a student she was Principal Cornet of Tongwynlais Temperance Band. After completing her studies in Wales, Vicki also held positions with Carlton Main Frickley, Black Dyke and most recently being Principal Cornet with Hatfield & Askern Colliery Band.
Vicki’s connection with Grimethorpe goes back quite a long way, with both her uncles Nicholas and Robert Childs (from her mother’s side) being members of the band, as well as Vicki’s cousin Andy, father Stewart and his brother Mick also being members of the band!
Vicki said “I would like to thank all of my friends and MD Stan Lippeatt at Hatfield & Askern Colliery Band. I have enjoyed my time with them very much and will remain a friend of the band.”
“I am excited to be joining many good friends at Grimethorpe and am looking forward to what the future holds!” (Vicki Kennedy)
Musical Director David Thornton commented “I’m delighted that Vicki will be joining the team. She brings a great combination of youth, experience and a thirst for success, exactly what we’re looking for at Grimethorpe. I cannot wait to get back into rehearsals with such a strong solo cornet team.”
We look forward to welcoming Vicki to GCB when rehearsals resume.
