Grimethorpe recently enjoyed an incredibly successful day at the Yorkshire Regional Championships, once again qualifying to participate in the Finals of the National Championships of Great Britain at London’s Royal Albert Hall in October.
Under the baton of Principal Conductor & Musical Director Dr Robert Childs, Grimethorpe delivered a tremendous performance of the set-test, Peter Graham’s “The Torchbearers”, which delighted the capacity crowd at St. George’s Hall, Bradford, and was later described by adjudicators Nigel Boddice and Graham Jones as “magnificent”.
Performing from a number one draw, Grimethorpe were delighted to take one of the two qualification spots from a field of 13 of Yorkshire’s finest championship section bands. There was further delight at the contest for Grimethorpe soloists as well, with Principal Euphonium Michael Dodd picking up the award for Best Soloist and Principal Cornet Iain Culross the award for Best Cornet Player. Grimethorpe now look forward to participating in the Finals of the National Championships of Great Britain at the Royal Albert Hall on October 10.
