The band are very pleased to announce exciting new additions to our trombone and cornet sections:
Richard Jones joins us on bass trombone. Richard says “I’m delighted to be joining Grimethorpe, to be offered an opportunity like this is a massive privilege. I’m looking forward to my time with the band and will hopefully enjoy many memorable performances, it will certainly be the biggest challenge of my musical career so far. I’d like to thank Old Silkstone and Sam Fisher and of course my first ever teacher Graham Dean and Knottingley Concert Brass.”
Principal trombone Chris Gomersall has said “Richard is a great young trombonist, I’ve been impressed by his playing since he attended our Youth band 4 years ago.”
We are also delighted to welcome Bethan Plant on repiano cornet. On her appointment Bethan says “I am very exited to be joining the band. It will be a great opportunity for me to further my playing and I am looking forward to the challenges that lie ahead. Playing full time with a band like Grimethorpe is a lifetime goal for any cornet player from Yorkshire – so to be able to accept the position at the end of my first year of college is a great honour.”
Roger Webster adds “I’m delighted to have Bethan joining our cornet section. She is a talented young player…yet another star from the nurturing environment of Elland Youth Band.”
We also recently welcome Solo Cornet Liam Boyd. Liam comes from a Salvation Army background and joins us from the Rothwell Temperance Band. A member of the National Youth Brass Band of Great Britain, Liam is a promising young talent currently studying at the Royal Northern College of Music.
These excellent young up-and-coming musicians join us at an exciting time for Grimethorpe and we wish them a long and successful future with us.
